Diving in Eilat

Image
In September we've been on a small family vacation in Eilat. I went diving for the first time in my life with my daughter, it was really cool! I wish I could sketch under the water! Until then, here are some sketches that I did above the water :)

Cold weekend in Jerusalem

Image
We spend a weekend in Jerusalem - city I always feel like a tourist in it. One hour of driving from Tel Aviv - and everything is changing - the landscape, the architecture, the people and even the air (freezing!). I love the variety of this city, the sense of many layers of history and holy spirit that hover over it. One of my "must" places to visit and sketch is Mahane Yehuda market - big and vibrant area full of vendors and food stalls. I love to sit on the bar of one of the coffee shops, observing the human ocean moving all the time, trying to absorb the movement, sounds and smells and put it all on paper.  here is another sketch did there few month earlier: Here is my attempt to capture the view from the window - one hour of meditation, watching how everything is changing during the sunset...  At the evening we went to the Yellow Submarine, great place to see some music performances: And the next morning, before leaving, we had a breakfast in Tmol Shilshom...

Amsterdam - after Symposium 2

Image
This is my last post about the trip to Amsterdam, here are the first , the second and the third posts. I really happy I had an opportunity to explore Amsterdam slowly, trying to absorb the city, not to run from one touristic spot to another, getting to know and feel this city and falling in love with it :) One of the mornings I met Paul Wang and used the opportunity to do remake on his portrait I did 9 years ago in Lisbon Symposium: I think there is no need for description, each one of this sketches reminds me so well my experience while I sketched them, each one keeps inside feeling of the place, mood, sounds, weather, and more... So lucky to be a sketcher!

Amsterdam - after Symposium 1

Image
I'm continuing my posts about my trip to Amsterdam, here are the first  and the second posts. I stayed in Amsterdam one week more after the Symposium. I already knew this feeling - passing at the familiar places that yesterday were filled by lots of sketchers and now look empty, even if they were full of people. After the bust of adrenaline - emptiness... But everything ends, and it was a great opportunity finally to see the city, to stroll without any goal, to slow down, to feel and absorb, and, finally, to sketch! :) One of the "must" Amsterdam points for me were visiting Van Gogh museum. The visit was very emotional. Van Gogh were one of my "mentors" when I was young, before his painting turned to be labels of vodka or cases of cell phones. I remember myself as a teenager reading his "Letters to Theo", amazed by Van Gogh's thirst for painting, his madness for depicting the life around him. I think it was one of the moment I thought - this cal...

Amsterdam - Urban Sketchers Symposium 2019

Image
I'm continuing to tell about my trip to Amsterdam, here is the first post . Symposium days started from faculty meeting (many hugs and kisses) and trip to the Royal Talens factory (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, sketchers' version ;)) Next three days were crazy and exciting marathon of teaching. My workshop "Face to Face" was dedicated to capturing urban portraits and took place at the Waterlooplein Market - great place with plenty of various faces! Wonderful symposium volunteers' team took care of every tiny detail. Even of weather, but maybe a bit too much, because Symposium days were really hot! Heat of close to 40C doesn't disturb fearless and enthusiastic participants - they all did wonderful, trying out different approaches, getting out of comfort zone and capturing a lot of stories by human faces! It was so nice to share the location with two of my favorite sketchers-instructors, who fancy people sketching and storytelling...
