Sketching live music!

Image
Last week I had a chance to be at a concert of the Jerusalem Young Philharmonic giving an exciting performance. I have already forgotten what a tremendous experience it is to live classical music, especially performed by cute and talented teens, and especially Dmitry Shostakovich, whose music ended the show. I must to go more! And if I'm talking about the experience of sketching live music - here are some more sketches from the last months I did at two concerts of musicians I love. Never will be tired of sketching music!

Moleskine from 2019

Image
It's been a while since my last post here. Social networks took place of blogs, we use to share visuals instant with minimum words and to get immediate response. But I don't want to give up on blogging, keeping some chronological report on my stuff, something I can look back on. Recently, I scanned my moleskine sketchbook I finished in the last year (2019). I'm too lazy to scan my sketches right away, especially, after I already posted them "in process" on Instagram. But there is something nice in looking back at the whole sketchbook - the changes of subjects, mood and tools during the timeline...

Inktober harvest

Image
This is my Inktober harvest. I didn't stick strict to the rules, but tried every time I sketched to use ink tools only. Forcing myself to use materials which usually aren't my first choice, feeling a bit uncomfortable, little by little expanding techniques and their possibilities, finding new ways to express what I see, was really fun and helpful. It also was very simplifying for my sketching process, because I'm not one-tool person and love to switch my tools often. I think it's very healthy to limit yourself from time to time, I'm thinking about doing in the future some Graphite-bruary or Gouache-vember ;)

PrideSketchcrawl - sketching the Pride Parade Tel Aviv

Image
I think that sketching at a Pride Parade is really a must experience for a sketcher! I know it's incredibly hard – the colorful crowd doesn't stop moving for a moment. Every character screams: "Draw me!" Sounds and smells mixing with the colors... but it's such fun! I arrived early and walked through the relatively calm but already very colorful Ben-Zion Boulevard. Chore on stage was singing their last rehearsal of"The Show must go on!". I sat down on the grass and sank into my first sketch. By the time I had finished my sketch, the boulevard was filled with crowds and music. I moved to the meeting point to meet fellow sketchers who had come to the sketchcrawl. There was really no need to move - "models" just came to us and we had to be very fast and decisive! The sets of colorful markers in our hands looked like miniature pride flags :) I'm already waiting for the next year!!!!
