ultraMARIN Sketch

Here are some sketches I did during our small drink&draw we had with with a bunch of friends-sketchers in "Suzanna" - coffee shop at Neve Zedek. Few hours flied as a one minute - I think I could do it all the day along - chatting, drinking and sketching with my friends.

Here are some sketches I did yesterday at the Piano Festival in Tel Aviv. First one at the open to the public show before the concert - i didn't have much time to sketch, but believe me - there were a lot of people, listening to the music, chatting, singing and even dancing! I drew the second sketch during the concert of Shalom Hanoch - musician that I like a lot. I managed to paint the watercolor background before the concert has started. The rest of the sketch I was needed to sketch in almost total darkness! the result was surprising ;)  After the concert we were looking for a place to drink something, there was done the last sketch: Almost forgot - the concert was really great, live music is real magic as always!

So what we had during our last sketchcrawl in Sarona - perfect weather, a lot of sketchers that came despite to the "situation" - old friends and new faces, one international guest from New Zeland - Scott Wilson, and a lot of stuff to sketch around. It was really fun! As I was also very busy by chatting, I decided not to waste my time by moving around and just continued to sketch everything I saw from my place on one long roll of paper :) Here is another sketch I did in Sarona few weeks ago:

Today we had a perfect beach day - Israel Indian summer is the best for enjoying the sea. I brought with me my markers which I didn't use for a while, it was fun!

September is coming to its end - it was the month full of sketching events. This month Urban Sketchers Israel had their second group exhibition, taking part in Illustration Week Tel Aviv. The expo was called "Sketch It @ Loveat" and it told the story of the coffee shop "Loveat" through sketches made on location in different areas of the coffee shop, inside and outside. 27 members of USk Israel gave their authentic view and told their story about the place. The expo took place in one of the central branches of the coffee shop, so both the sketching team and customers could recognize themselves in the sketches. During Illustration Week the group also held 3 sketchcrawls for the wider audience. At the opening event, visitors were invited to do spontaneous on-location sketches and to take part in the expo on a special "live" wall. It was a lot of work, but I think it was worth it! I owe to myself one last post about Singapore USk Symposium. Unfortunately, I din't have a time to take many workshops, because all my mornings I was busy by teaching. The only one that I managed to take, was Simo Capecchi's "A Collective Reportage" workshop. I'm interested a lot in reportage and storytelling aspect of urban sketching, and it was a long time I wanted to take Simo's workshop, one of the specialists of reportage drawing. It was very interesting to hear Simo's introduction, in which she told about different approaches to the reportage drawing and showed a lot of examples - her own sketches and also other artist's works. Then our mission was defined and we went to make our reportage about the Chinese Temple at Waterloo Street. I had with me my self-made accordion sketchbook, which construction dictated me the character of my reportage - repetitive compositions, with minimal texts, capturing all kind of people - vendors, temple servers, ...

I'm continuing my first post about the amazing experience of Singapore USk Symposium. Teaching our workshop "Face the City!" together with my friend from Denmark Ea Ejersbo   was, of course, the main reason for coming there. Ea spent the last winter in Israel, near me, and then born our idea of leading a workshop together again. As our mutual favorite sketching subject is people, the starting point was easy to choose. We even did a rehearsal of our workshop in Jaffa for the local Urban Sketchers group. But, of course, doing it in Singapore, for the international audience, as part of the USk symposium, was a different experience! Certainly, it's impossible to learn sketching people in three and a half hours, and even in there and a half days. Nothing can't exchange her majesty practice, but still, it's possible to transfer our approach to sketching people, and even maybe to the urban sketching in general.
